[ICOM] Icom 706MKII VOX problem

Hi Gary,
I haven't had that problem with other rigs and vox, although the room would
echo some since there are no rugs or curtains in it. However, the problem
also shows up when I connect a cord from the computer soundcard to the mic
jack, and there isn't any echo from that.

Does your shack have any curtains, rugs etc in it or is it bard drywall
walls, hardwood floors no materials to deaden the sound. I worked when an
old fellow once while at Icom who called about a VOX issue. I could hear the
room echo over the telephone. Of course he could hardly hear so he had the
volume way up, mic gain up, vox gain up since the anti vox was doing its
job, then tried tuning it out the cycling with the anti vox. There was no
way in the world the anti vox was going to prevent the vox tripping. To see
what I mean go into your bathroom. Remove all towels, floor mats / rugs and
close the door and listen when you do. It's amazing how much different the
room will reflect sound with nothing but drywall, tile and vinal / hardwood
floors and no material. Just another thought. During the time I supported
the 706MKIIG I can't say I fielded many if any calls about this vox issue,
could be my memory is fading though.

Tried it into a dummy load at lowest power, have the same problem. I see on
the yahoogroups reflector for the Icom 706 that someone last year reported
their 706MKII having the same problem. I emailed him to see if he ever
found a solution.

Turn you RF output down as low as it will go and/or transmit into a
dummy load. Does the problem go away? If so, it is likely RF is getting
into the PTT or audio and triggering the transmitter.
