[ICOM] 781 "raspy"sound

That is a typical symptom of bad polystyrene variable trimmer capacitors in the VCO circuits. It is a common problem from the IC-735 (at least) on for many rigs. Eventually, each band of the VCO will fail to lock in and effectively go dead.
