Jim, considering the age of your radio, you should be thinking about replacing the caps. Although not out of the question, I would suspect a cap failure MUCH more than an inductor.....

Subject: [ICOM] 781 "raspy"sound
My old 781 is starting to sound "raspy" in both Tx and Rx, specially in 15
and 10 meters.
I have found a recommendation to replace L11 and some other components in
the reg board.
L11 is an LW-15 type choke, I cannot find any other description regarding
inductance value.
Anybody knows where I can get the specs or buy a type LW-16 type to impreve
reliability?
Thank you, appreciate any help, happy new year
