[ICOM] USB to remote plug for the IC-718

If you're running Win7 and your USB to serial adapter is a Prolific chip,
the OS may not recognize it. I had to switch to an FTDI chip USB CI-V
converter.

Larry,

Appreciate your answer. I have a CT-17. The laptop only has USB ports. I
plugged a USB to serial converter into the USB port, then the 9 pin to 25
pin cable from the converter to the CT-17, then cabling from the CT-17 to
the IC-718.

I get no communication to the radio, and not so certain any communication
with the CT-17. I read that communication directly with the CT-17 may be
achieved using hyperterminal. I tried that route with no luck, either.

I am slowly narrowing down the options trying to figure out if the converter
is not working properly with the CT-17 or if the CT-17 is faulty. I am
guessing it is more human error than anything else.

Any thoughts?

Patrick...

the drivers. Try a CI-V adapter input on E-Bay and look at the offerings.

So the question is, can a USB cable be canabalized to segregate the data
lines from the power lines, solder a 3.5 mm plug to the data lines and be
able to make a direct connection from the PC USB port to the remote jack on
the IC-718?

Cheers de Patrick ...
