Hi John,
I have run an Icom IC-706MKIIG since March 2006 with a Tarheel screwdriver
antenna. I use both SSB and CW
at full power (100 watts) with no problem. I"m sure your problem is with
the connection with the cigarette lighter.
Connect the power cord to the battery and I'm sure your problem will go
away. I would also change the plug
on the keyer paddles cable to the 1/4" plug and eleminate the possibility of
future problems.
Make sure you have a good ground for the radio and the base of the antenna.
