I am looking for a way to get crossband repeat from HF/6m to 2m/70cm, and can't afford a TS2000 right now. I am wondering if this idea would work. If I had 2 Icom 706s, I am thinking of interfacing them for crossband repeat using the mic jack on each one. The receive audio is available at the mic jack, so if I hooked up the mic audio out on one to the mic audio in on the other and put the rigs on VOX, and squelched the audio on each, would it work like crossband repeat. As the receive squelched opened on the one rig, it should take the other 706 transmit via VOX.
Would the interface cable between the 2 mic jacks be this easy? Just take the receive audio from one and wire it to the mic audio on the other, and vice versa. Anyone try this yet?
