John,

Are the buttons that you are having trouble with on the microphone or on the 
radio?

I have the same radio in front of me and all the buttons work.  The buttons 
on the mic
are the "Up-Down" buttons and the "VFO-MR" buttons and they all are supposed 
to work.

You might take the mic case apart and check inside.
