Ron,
   The 756Pro has a real bad habit of trashing the pair of driver
transistors in this situation.  The strike can be over a mile away,
but damage the drivers, and take them out.   I always disconnet at all
lines when not on the air, but an Icom note I have claims the damage
can be done while just listening, with the strike a mile and a half
away.   Reason I'm familiar with it, I had to replace the drivers in
my 756Pro over this issue.   It also took one of the chip resistors in
the driver circuit.   Not hard to do, but a known problem.   Got a
pair of drivers on Ebay, from Honk Kong, back then they were very
readily available, less than $20 to my door shipped.
