[ICOM] Icom Windows Cloning software questions

As I remember, the software will only run on older Windows versions, 98,
2000, XP. For sure, it will not run under Vista or Windows 7 unless you can
find an update.

The cable has a 9-pin for the serial port and internal to the housing is a
circuit board for all the goodies to interface with the radio. You will need
a USB-to-Serial adapter to use with a USB port. However, I think there is a
limitation on the number of serial ports you can select in the software.
Many of the USB-to-Serial adapters take the higher serial port numbers: 8,
9, and 10 because the other ports are used by devices onboard the laptop or
desktop. You might have to resurrect an older computer to do your
programming.

Subject: [ICOM] Icom Windows Cloning software questions

I have the older Icom CD to program the IC T7H. I shared it with my
late friend W9RVR who had an IC W32. The software did several radios. I
now have an Icom IC T90A from my late uncle. I want to program it for
two of my grandaughters going off to college this fall. They are hams &
want to use it in a major city where they will be.
My 1st question is: will that software work on th IC T90A too?
My second question: the cable has a 9 pin connector for a serial port
on the PC. My new laptop only has USB ports. Can I just get an adapter
serial to USB cable or plug to insert in the cable going from HT to PC
if the software will work?
I hope my questions are clear enough to follow.
