Thank you all who answered my request for help with my friend's PS35,
specially Terry, K3JT.
I disassembled IC1 (I thought it was more difficult) and found the neon
glass with a very small crack and all white inside.
I tried to replace it with a LED with no luck and not much time to
experiment a circuit more complex than a simple voltage divider connected
across R4. (The voltage and current for the LED are too critical in this
case). I decided to go Terry's way and replaced IC-1 with a 1K 1/4w
resistor. As soon as I heard the relay click after connecting it, I
thought...voilá....and I measured 13.6 volts output. I loaded it with a test
resistor and at 20 Amps it worked fine.
Now my friend is happy with his PS-35 back working fine.
P.S. I would not use it inside any of my radios because of the heath
generated....The external PS optioin is definitely much better.
