[ICOM] SWR tuning issue with IC-706MkIIG

I've got a relatively old, but well cared for IC-706MkIIG.  It's in my truck
(www.wa9pie.net/hamradio).  I'm using a N2VZ Turbo Tuner and a Tarheel Model
100A antenna.  This setup works really well.  However.

 

I occasionally have an issue where the following happens:

 

.         I've changed frequency where tuning the antenna is needed

.         I hit the tune button and the N2VZ auto-tuner begins working to
move the antenna

.         Normally, at this point, I'd see the SWR indicator start from an
infinite SWR to something approaching 1:1.  However, the problem is.

.         The rig constantly reads an SWR of 1:1 as the auto-tuner moves the
antenna and eventually stops (may or may not be in-tune).

 

It's rather frustrating.  I did a CPU reset on the rig. no difference.

 

Thoughts?
