[ICOM] Icom Case Screws

Although a quick search for JIS tools came back with many hits, many Radio
Controlled helicopters and the like use the JIS type screws. As such, any
good hobby store will stock the tools. The JIS screw "looks" like a Phillips
but more closely resembles a Frearson or Reed & Prince, though the latter
went out of production in the '70s. The JIS type screwdriver has a 57 degree
point with a flat tip and parallel wings. The Phillips has a 57 degree
point with tapered wings and the tip is "usually" rounded, but it can be
blunt. Henry Phillip's patent says the point "can be either flat, pointed,
or rounded", but the ones I have in my toolbox are all rounded.

The real difference between the two is that the JIS was designed to NOT
cam-out when excess torque is applied where as the Phillips WAS designed to
cam-out.

The JIS tools can be used on Phillips screws without any problems but
Phillips drivers cannot be used on the JIS unless you want to strip them
out. People do "FORCE" the Phillips driver into the screw with an impact
driver, but all they are doing is driving the flutes into the screw to get
more bite. Bottom line is they are just damaging the screw.
