Make or buy an OPC-478 or CT-17 serial cable. They are available for less 
than $8 on Ebay. Cut a panel extension cable to obtain the radio end. 
Connect the braid to the sleeve of the CT-17 cable plug. Connect the white 
and red wires together and to the tip of the CT-17 plug. If you are making 
your own connector for the radio the left pin, when viewing the connector 
on the radio chassis, after removing the front panel is ground. Next going 
right is "to radio". Next is "from radio" and the last is 13.8 VDC. Connect 
"to radio" and "from radio" together and to the tip of the CT-17 cable. I 
used a RS 274-274  1/8" phone jack and connected tip and ring together and 
to the red and white wires.
