Al, these relays are a commom problem. My 761 developed the intermittant issue last year. Icom tech says to replace it. I took it apart and used a small strip of business card with DeOxit 5 on it. It has worked perfectly for over a year.....
I have never seen a relay SO sensitive to "lightly" tapping the radio, to have it kick in on out.

Subject: [ICOM] relay in IC-761
It sounds as if the relay in my vintage '761 has given up the ghost after
2 years. While it occasionally will work, much of the time it doesn't
eem to want to engage properly. I haven't had a chance to take it apart
nd do any measurements but my service manual says the relay is a VS12TBN-E
nd I've been having problems finding it on the net.
Any suggestions?
