Now I get to ask instead of answering :-)
I just picked up an IC-7000 transceiver to replace my now 16 year old
IC-706MKII. I am currently using an old Am-Comm antenna controller with
my HS-1800 /Pro antenna and it works quite well..
Most reports I have read say the tuner controllers meant for the 706
series will not work with the IC-7000 even though the AH-2 through AH-4
seem to work fine.
I am asking if any of you are using an automatic antenna controller with
your IC-7000 and what make and model.
I see the Better RF controller is recommended by K0BG. I also see it
requires installation of an adapter on the radio back along with another
box for the antenna control. Then there is Turbo-Tuner, don't know much
about that one though i have sent people asking about a controller at
the Dayton Hamvention to look them up since I remembered they made such
a device.
I also have read about doing a mic audio modification to the HS-151, any
of you had that done or did the one published on mods.dk where you
actually build a preamp?
K0BG says his findings were merely setting on the rig for good mic
audio. I have a Heil Traveler headset I have not used yet so maybe
that's better than the stock mic but then you loose the controls.
OH by the way I was WRONG...I had made some statements about amplifiers
and FCC ID numbers referring to 24 - 28 MHz operation not needing FCC
approval.
I had forgot that clear back in 1978 the ruling that 10 meters came
about.... my mistake for not looking up FCC Part 97 rules.
Though the FCC does not test amateur radio transmitters they did want to
about amateur radio HF amplifiers.
