[ICOM] opinions needed

I have one of the early MKIIG rigs s/n 02350 that has been dragged
around in various 4WD vehicles on not the greatest of Colorado back
roads, down for two IOTA operations in Central America and to the top of
several 14000 ft peaks in Colorado and have only had one minor repair. I
just recently had it on a houseboat on Lake Powell for a week of WSJT
operation and it is still alive and well. I'll probably run it until the
wheels (finals) fall off. I've had lots more problems with ESD problems
on my PROIII (5 times) than I've ever had with the 706 and see no reason
to get rid of it because the finals "might" croak.
As for shipping rigs I've found Priority Mail at the USPO to be a
good and cheaper option than UPS and the 706 fits in one of the "one
price" boxes.

I'm a casual operator and from now I'm refusing to spend a bunch of money on a radio that may need repair and then get shipped only to have Fed EX or UPS destroy it. Next hf rig I buy will be something basic and at the lower end of the price scale. My recommendation ? IC-718 or Yaesu FT- 450 and one of the many great dual banders that are out. That way if one fails you still have the other.
