You also have to keep in mind the exchange rate - remember back to 2002/2003
timeframe (or check your old QSTs against the QRZ classifieds archive.
Early-mid 2002 I was seeing a number of "I bought an IC-718 1 year ago, paid
$800, barely used, will sell for $650...." - when HRO and AES were
advertising them for $549 (and for a couple of months even for $499) new, in
box, with warranty.
The major change between early 2001 and early 2002 was the Japanese economy
(and thus the Yen) tanked. Every radio went way down in price (and right
back up when the Yen recovered and the Dollar dropped a few years later).
Catch the dollar going the wrong way right after an new model release and
suddenly $1300 radios really are only worth $800, possibly.
Then again, if the dollar goes the other way and the reviews of the new
radio say "stick with the old one" then they might actually go up.

I have no immediate personal experience concerning either ProII or ProIII,
but with the introduction of the IC-7600 it is obvious from any reading of
the listings that whatever market there WAS fore those radios has dropped
markedly.
Adam's figures re ProII seem to me as positive as one might get for that
radio, and if you haven't noticed, almost all radio resale prices of 6
months or a year ago are right now much higher than what is being sold
today.
One tool that you might use is to go www.eham.net--
http://www.eham.net/classifieds/
and when you get there click on "search", type in ProII, and make sure you
click on "include sold listings."
Of course this will not give you the actual sale prices, but it WILL give
you the HIGHEST prices asked--and the actual selling prices will invariably
be well below those numbers.
Icom really destroyed the market for the Pros by bring out the 7600, with
its roofing filters. That was, of course, exactly their intention.
