On some of the Icom Radios, PRO Series, IC-706/7000, the Main Tuning Knob just
pulls off. No set screw.

Subject: Re: [ICOM] tuning knob skirt
I don't have an Icom with the rubber cover. However, I have always called it
a "boot".
The service manual for my Yaesu FT-920 calls it a "Rubber Ring" (very
original)...((:->
Whatever you like, the good news is we all knew what he was talking about.
What ever you use, be sure and allow provisions for removing the set screw
that holds the knob in place.
Another thought would be to wrap the knob with painters tape until the
thickness was enough to make it a tight fit
