Yes at the time Maxon and Radio Shack were trying to design around some
popular accessories as they did not want to produce their own.
I used to know a person at Radio Shack, Ft Worth, TX and he told me the
story about the HTX-202..
I am unsure if the battery works, but the mounting was very similar. The
old 2 / 02 series battery mounting was pretty stout.
We did check about the HTX-202 with he factory since Icom did private
label the H and U-16 to Midland between 1986 - 1988 as the 70-154 and
70-254 respectively.
But the factory also removed the front panel programming from those so
you had to use an external programmer for those " Midlands" Since they
were a Midland product, Icom America did not touch them for anything.
Icom at one time did have a 800 MHz trunking handheld. It did not last
long as an Icom product since we did not license a LTR controller nor
have a 800 MHz repeater system..
EF Johnson actually went to Icom and had them make that product as a
EF Johnson product. It was unique at the time since it supported " Over
the Air" programming.
Icom currently has VHF and UHF trunking products. And they are working
on very narrow band FM using a 6,25 KHz channel spacing on Land Mobile
transceivers which is FCC mandated..
This means Digital modulation as the old analog way of setting it to
5KHz will not work with such narrow channel spacing I don't think we
will see that set up in amateur products though, there are some trade offs
going so narrow at least trying to do it conventionally not digitally.
