[ICOM] I love my 706g

Hi, I just wanted to comment...
I bought a 706MKIIg soon after they were announced. I was in Tokyo at
the time. I didn't realize it until I was on the return flight, that
the model I just bought was the "E" version. The only difference was
that it will not work above 145 MHz. This is NO big deal since the last
thing I would use the radio for would be for 2 M FM Mobile. I have LOTS
of cheap radios for that. ha ha
I have since moved some of the SMD diodes and it will receive the
entire 2 M band, but xmit still stops at 145 MHz. I was told it needs a
different processor. Forget that!!!
Anyway, after I got home (Kentucky at that time), I connected it to my
M2 6M7JHV at 70' fed with 7/8" hardline.
The result? This little radio heard every thing my 'other' radios
could. I have a well tuned, mint Drake TR-6, I had an Icom 575H, and a
ton of receivers with a LOT of 6 Meter converters.
I have a legal limit amp with a pair of 3-500Zgs and it was
'interesting' using the little 706 to work Meteor Scatter as well as
the 575H!
I sold the 575H and I have also compared the 706g to a 756PRO that I
also bought in Japan. Both are excellent and equal. I live in a quiet
location and both radios can 'hear' my antenna.
I will shortly have the JHV back in the air at 110' fed with 7/8"
hardline........
