Well Tom,
I posted this earlier today on several other lists, but I can add my concern
that it also lacks duplex and CTCSS capabilities in addition to the FM issue
that I mentioned. For EMCOM it would seem a serious omission.
The text of what I sent earlier follows...
Well, I may be wrong, but the IC-7200 seems to lack FM, which for 10m and 6m
is useful both for general Ham operations,
and for Amateur Radio EMCOM operations as well!
The other question is whether or not the IC-7200 is more tolerant to low
voltages than the IC-7000.
Can someone address these questions?
While there are many cool features in the IC-7200, I use my IC-7000 with an
N8XJK Boost Regulator, West Mountain
Radio PwrGate40, a 38AH battery for backup power, a small MFJ switching
power supply with Anderson PowerPoles
on the front, an LDG AT-100 tuner and a diverse set of portable antennas in
my kit. Of course I also have a small
package with station supplies such as a second headset, an LED lamp, a small
laptop, cables and a USB based
Rigblaster, paper, pencils, pens, small tools, tape, flashlights and
batteries to complete the package.
I have a second kit which has FM rigs and antennas and a useful subset of
station supplies appropriate to operating
on 144/222/440 on FM and packet. Sometimes I combine them, other times I
take just one or the other to meet the
operational requirements.
I'm sure that an IC-7200 would be a great enhancement, but the lack of FM,
the larger form factor, a few missing and useful bands.
Thanks & 73,
Gordon Beattie, W2TTT
