: I don't know what power connector it has but I don't think it's the same
as
: the 706 series of radios. It turns off when ever he transmits at any power
: level.
We're going to need a lot more information about the installation, for
starters:
Power supply? Connections from the supply to the rig, to the antenna and
whatever ground paths there are. Current draw of the rig? Current capacity
of the supply? Voltage of the power supply? Size of the wires from the
power supply to the radio? Power connector type? How many times has the
connector been used? Is it secure?
Photos help.
Generally radios will reset when the voltage supplying them is around 10
Volts. This can occur from a bad power supply, low current supply, small
gauge wires, dirty connectors, worn connectors, malfunctioning connectors
(as on my 706MKII), loose connections...
: He needs a replacement screw for the separation cable.
Only if he has a problem with the cable fallling off.
For starters, he should put the face back on the body, get a good supply, a
30 - 50 A unit with voltage and ampere meters is good, large short wires, 8
or 10 AWG, fused on both leads, then see what happens, start at low power,
then work up, if possible, use a dummy load, if not, a near perfect antenna
for the band in use during the tests. If in doubt about the contacts on the
face, body or seperation cable, three to four cleanings with q-tips and 70 -
91% rubbing alcohol is good, use a clean swab for each contact, each time.
