John: As far as vhf mobile, you will not find a better mobile rig than
the Kenwood TM-271A. It is spec'd as a commercial mobile radio. The same
radio is sold in some other countries as a commercial land mobile
radio.(Just look at the specs in the owners manual). It is the only amateur
radio mobile that I have seen which has perfect modulation and specs from
136 to 174 mhz. That also includes full power output thru that range. The
modulation and the output power on the Icom vhf mobiles will go squirelly
when you go past 160 mhz or even to 138 mhz and lower. The rf output on the
TM-271A is absolutely flat from 136 to 174 mhz.
