[ICOM] Using Kenwood MC-80 to IC-706

If you go look at the ratings on eham.net (yes, subjective, but still interesting) Kenwood blows away Icom on 2 meter and 2/70cm all mode radios. Yaesu is somewhere in the middle. However, Icom sure took over that market once the 706 and 746 hit the streets. Kenwood never seemed to be able to recover from that one. Kenwood's FM gear seems pretty good if you want a built in TNC, but if you just want to talk on it Yaesu seems pretty good for the price, and they recognized the wisdom of making several different models using the same platform (FT8900/FT8800/FT7800).
