[ICOM] CI-V device not reading frequency

I am not sure we are talking about the same thing here or not when you say
serial adapter. If you mean an adapter that connects to your computer in a
USB port and converts to serial, if that is what you are saying you must
also have a level converter like a CT-17 if you want to interface to your
computer. I use one with my Pro III and 746 Pro to my SteppIR and HRD with
no problems at all. I have also used a converter from ZEP in England with
just as much success. Never had any problems with either and have used them
for over 3 years. I hope we are talking about the same thing here.

After market generic CI-V serial adapter. Sees the rig (IC-746PRO). But will

not read frequency. Have tried with several different programs. Tried it 
with RTS and DTR on, RTS off and DTR on, RTS on and DTR off, and both off. 
This thing used to work. It uses an NTE7142 chip. Any ideas?
