[ICOM] CI-V device not reading frequency

After market generic CI-V serial adapter. Sees the rig (IC-746PRO). But will 
not read frequency. Have tried with several different programs. Tried it 
with RTS and DTR on, RTS off and DTR on, RTS on and DTR off, and both off. 
This thing used to work. It uses an NTE7142 chip. Any ideas?
