Mel: A 781 is not a 756Pro and switches in the transmit low pass filters at a different frequency than does a 756Pro. See W0QE's web site and pay particular attention to the 80 meter filter differences on the 756Pro and the 781. Also note the difference on PA current draw on 5 Mhz. http://www.w0qe.com/60m_operation.html a 756Pro with just the diode all coverage mod will transmit on 60 meters, but will eventually damage the 80 meter transmit filter components and possibly other pa components as well. I would not recommend doing that mod.

FWIW
When I had my 781 I tested it on 60M and it works fine (full output
normal current draw) as does the tuner.
I also tested my IC738 and it also works fine on 60 but the internal
tuner does not!
