Hi, first many thanks for all the replies and info. The home built interface I made some years ago from a kit used the MAX232 chip it was built originally for a Kenwood rig which needed 5 wires I think for hand shaking also it had a chip in it to invert the logic. I just bypassed that chip when I bought my first Icom rig. One of our club members made his own , it just has two transistors inside one of the db9 plugs and it works fine. I brought up the problem we have with CT17 at our club meeting last night and one member who has a IC756pro3 just plugs his cable from the serial port straight into his rig and he says it works FB! So there really is no need to spend a lot on a commercial interface.
With my pals problem it looks as if I will have to make up a cable with a db9 at one and a 25 pin at the other. Gary K8IZ has kindly given me the pin out.
I have a IC7600 now, no problem with interface with it as it communicates through the usb port. The IC756pro3 is up for sale.
73 and thanks again Pete G3KNU
