it's a good idea to run a buffer no matter what, i use old and new amplifier's here all the time, just a safety factor that make's me feel, better, but of course this is just my opinion and operating procedure, they are very easy to make for less than 10 dollar's.

I use an Ampkeyer. I've used it between a Yaesu 757, Kenwood 430s & now

IC 746 driving an SB220. I recently got an Ameritron 811H & it's
between the
IC 746 and the Ameritron. Maybe overkill but it's there. There are several
such buffers on the market. You can roll your own with the proper size relay
too. The SB220 switches 120v ....way too much for the solid state or reed t/r
stuff in modern radios
