[ICOM] R-71A battery replacement

Hi Dan,
I have an ICOM 751A here, on which I've replaced the lithium battery twice
now (the rig is almost 20 years old --- I prefer to be "safe" first, rather
than "sorry" afterward, so have reduced the 10 year life expectancy span of
the battery to a degree! Hi).
What I did first was go to Radio Shack & buy one of their penlight battery
plastic holders: I then soldered the leads (properly polarized, of course!)
in parallel with the contact points that the lithium battery connects to.
Whenever I want to replace the lithium now, all I do is first insert my
"back-up" pen light batteries into the holder, remove & replace the lithium
battery, then remove the penlights. Period.
I don't know about the R71A receiver, but there's PLENTY of room inside the
751A, if you don't have the internal AC power supply. I attached the
penlight holder to the side of an internal shield with a dab of hot melt
glue, & that was that!
