[ICOM] ProIII and TX5C

The real problem is, they CAN'T back off the RF gain and have much
happen, because the ProIII front end is miles wide and there's no "hard"
front end filter before the DSP. They sit there and watch the meter pin
for 30-40 seconds before they can even hear a strong signal. Note how
many times the ops (poor ops! I really feel sorry for them) respond by
saying "VERY BIG SIGNAL, above the crowd." Their looking for ANYTHING
above the AGC. And waiting, and waiting, and waiting.
I really though that lesson had been learned about only-DSP radios a
long time ago, but I guess somebody missed the message. And after all,
the problem is worse on FO-C than most places because there is ALWAYS a
huge signal wave from north and south America there.
73 to all! I hope winter is ending for you; it's got a few weeks to go
in Iowa. Jan
