Please refresh my memory, how does a roofing filter help when hundreds of
signals are within the passband of the roofing filter? Since all the calling
stations are within a few kilohertz, I would think that the bandwidth of the
roofing filter wouldn't matter that much. Maybe I'm not understanding your
comment.

If the signals are that strong, I guess they could turn off the preamps, use
attenuation and RF gain, and then perhaps change the AGC parameters if
needed.
