The radio power will keep the memories alive but
not recharge that lithium battery as its not a rechargeable type.
I don't have a schematic handy but I would bet
there are some steering diodes to allow for radio
power or battery power in the memory circuit.
No the IC-735 CPU is a masked programmed device,
almost like a ROM. Nothing needs to be done to
keep the operating frequency range and basic settings with in the IC-735.
Many confuse the memory batteries with the IC-751
type series where the lithium battery did back up operating frequencies.
However the battery current drain on that
particular series is way down into the micro amps
range on the ram board when its operating correctly.
Check the lithium battery if its 3.0 volts or
better its just fine in the IC-735 and IC-751 series.
