I would go through the PLL alignment. IIRC - it isn't hard to do. I do not
remember if the 735 had the CAP PROBLEM in the PLL. Find out, and since you are
in it for alignment - replace the caps - IF THE 735 is one of the affected
units. I sold my service manual with my 735 - and I don't remember anymore.

The noise blanker was a big problem there - is the noise blanker on? Try it
off. Try it with the pre-amp off too.

Try gently blowing it out with a can of compressed air. If that don't get it,
try using a Q-tip dipped in alcohol to gently wipe the LEDs and photo-resistors.
If that doesn't work, send it to Scott Malcolm. CAUTION - those encoders are
UNOBTAINIUM! Don't screw it up - or your rig becomes a computer-controlled
radio. Other choice is to buy a dead radio to gut the encoder from. But if
cleaning don't get it, E-mail Scott Malcolm for help. mailto:mts at trip.net.

Good luck.
