16 bit USB sound cards can be had for about $5 retail. I often use those myself for digital modes. I'm sure it will show up as an additional soundcard (probably C-Media branding) and all software will work with it. I must have missed it in the manual when I skimped through it to figure out what the USB port was for. Nice feature!

Alex,
The USB port is for direct DATA input from the Sound card. Audio modulation input source is selected by menu. See page 77 of the manual.
If I understand what I'm reading, seems that it would negate the need for an external audio interface. I do not know if any of the current digital programs would support it, unless it comes up as a external sound card when connected. However sounds like a really neat feature.
