Alex,

The USB port is for direct DATA input from the Sound card. Audio modulation input source is selected by menu. See page 77 of the manual.

If I understand what I'm reading, seems that it would negate the need for an external audio interface. I do not know if any of the current digital programs would support it, unless it comes up as a external sound card when connected. However sounds like a really neat feature.
