[ICOM] IC-2340 Intermittant UHF

Has anyone figured out how to permanently fix the problem with the UHF side 
of the IC-2340 going intermittant due to the crappy connection between the 
little control knob circuit board and the main front panel board?  I've 
tried soldering between the boards with small hook-up wire, tightening the 
physical connections between the boards numerous times and nothing seems to 
work.  Any suggestions are welcome.
