[ICOM] IC-1271A VFO Problem

Harry,
I doubt its the ram battery either its working or it fails. Its supposed
to measure 3 volts or a bit more. Be careful if you short it out then
you risk loosing the contents of the ram. If the dial is changing
frequency then the encoder is ok, I would be inclined to suspect a
cracked solder joint on the front panel switches or even the IC the
switches go into. Maybe even a tarnished, loose connector.
Are you in memory or VFO mode when doing this?
Is the DFS switch depressed? If this button is depressed while in VFO
mode then only the memory channel indication changes not the frequency.
This is so you can quickly store the displayed frequency. If the DFS is
depressed while in memory mode then you can change frequency but not
overwite it.
Does the display announce VFO A or B?
