Good Evening,

I have an IC-735 here that is acting up. On SSB receive, the audio is raspy, and clips as if the AGC circuit is not working properly. It also is not as loud as it should be. Transmit SSB audio sounds fine.

AM/FM receive audio sounds fine and as loud as usual. Therefore, I'm ruling out any audio amplifier stage issue.

As far as the well-documented trimmer cap replacement goes - when they fail or act up, since it involves the PLL stage, does the raspy audio symptoms occur on RX AND TX? How about AM or FM? I am thinking I may have an AGC or SSB detector circuit trouble rather than the trimmer caps, since it is occurring on SSB RX only.

Anyone else ever have similar symptons as above? If you replaced the trimmers, were your symptons RX only on SSB only?

Tomorrow night I'll grab the service manual and scope and dive into it. Thanks in advance for any input which may save me sone time.
