Many things:
- You see immediately if a band is open or not. Useful not only in a contest
where you want to check if 10/15m is open.

- You see the pile up crowd of a DX and can select the frequency where you
want to slot in.

- You see the RTTY portion of the band during contest and can decide where to
look for a clear frequency or CQ

- During a contest you look for stations to work. You tune across a quiet
portion of the band, hearing nothing, you continue to tune. Suddenly a peak
springs up on the freq you just passed over, you go back and work him.
Without a scope you would have missed that station.

- On an otherwise quiet band you see other activities and can jump over there,
as Adam already noted.

I will never go without a scope again, especially during a contest, but also
in daily dx work.

Ekki, DF4OR
