Actually, the MRF448 is a good substitute for the 2SC2652, and is available
from RF Parts and other vendors.

Thanks for the information guys. It seems that most people are using the ALC
link but also that they are using Icom exciters with the 2KL. I have a Ten
Tec Orion which has NO ALC connection so I guess this radio is essentially
unusable with the IC2KL.

With the almost near unavailability of the amplifier transistors I guess a
2KL's value is approaching that of the early TenTec Hercules amp. 
Perhaps an SPE might be a better bet!
