Jack did you find /buy a chip? I'm sure I can replace it for you. I have the
appropriate tools as you know.

Subject: [ICOM] CT-17 & MAX 232

As a result of an disagreement with some lightning I lost my CT-17...
The MAX 232 chip literally lost its top!

The good news is it was easy to diagnose! L3 & L4 also blew
apart. I'm sure there are other components also that lost their life
in the pursuit on my hobby.
I have 2 questions:
1: Jameco has the Max chip however there are 3 models listed:
MAX232ACPE +5V mulit channel drvrs/recvrs C-temp
MAX232CPE 5v 200kbps, multichannel
MAX232ECPE +/- 15v ESD-protected, n+5v RS232 trans

Which is the correct one?

2: The surge appears to have come in on the Verizon FIOS line. Is
there anyone familiar enough with FIOS to answer a question off list for me?
