Clete, I do NOT disagree with your statements, per se. However, having
spent much time in Tokyo, I can tell you that BIG radios were absent
from the ham dealers. The 'break point' seemed to be the PRO. Also
remember the average JA lives in a VERY small apartment. The PRO series
has been a tremendous success story for Icom, in SPITE of it's size.
Maybe, they need to realize that the rest of the world (their market),
might like MORE radio in the same package. Remember, they have NO
'dedicated' radios for 2, and 432, anymore...
My question remains that if Icom can put all those bands in a 706g, or
a 7000, (and quite successfully!), why can't they stuff a few more into
a 7600 size package? Even just as a trial?
Here I have:
706g
756PRO
761
745
271
471
551D
251A
Most of these I bought brand new and have been VERY happy with....
Plus a LOT of 2 Meter FMs...

There's maybe a reason. Perhaps MKIIG's and the
like are designed to be mobile, mainly, and 2M
is part of the things most of us do while mobile.
Now, someone who procures a big radio for their
home QTH may just want a separate radio for 2M
and other VHF
. Psych 101 (?) Me, I have a ProII
and a IC-275H here. Pretty good setup. If I
manufactured radios I'd try to put a lot of bands
into a lower priced product for those who really
can't afford to have a lot of ICOM's on the shelf.
Trivia end. 73 Clete
