Experience over many years has taught me to 'pull the plugs', not just depend on opening switches when a thunderstorm is heading this way. I have seen too many electronic devices destroyed or severely damaged. TV's, microwave ovens etc.
I had a TS680S that had a destroyed audio amp IC caused by a close hit, maybe a few hundred feet away. It was completely disconnected from the power mains. The only external connection was an external speaker.
To me, it is worth effort to disconnect everything with the coming of those storms.

I concur in powering down the entire shack equipment when NOT OPERATING.
I use a dual 20amp (240VAC) Circuit breaker for my "peace-of-mind".

Another good reason for turning off "everything" when not in use and
especially in bad WX..
I installed two regular wall switches in my operating desk that kills all my
radio and computer power strips. That disables all the power supplies and
wall-warts.
