San, do you have a place that installs car electronics and mobile phone
close by?
If so, ask them if they have a spare mic lead as used in in-car kits for
mobile phones.
These are usually small mic's, designed to be fitted to the sun visor, and
have a long lead terminated in a 1/8" stereo jack.
They work perfectly for what you have in mind. Also, with the long lead, it
means you can fit it to the back of a desktop PC and still have plenty of
wire to move it somewhere useful.
