Kelly,
The Radio Shack handhelds were NOT re badged Icom's. They were made for
Radio Shack by Maxon.
In chatting with a Radio Shack executive at the time, who was also an
Icom customer, Radio Shack choose to utilize common accessories and
thats how the misconception came about as the battery packs were similar
to Icom's mounting on the old O2AT series.
Believe me we at Icom America did ask Icom Japan about those handhelds.
Icom Japan did re badge the H / U 16 commercial series for Midland in
the 1980's. Seems to me they were the 70-154 and 70-254 however they
removed the radio to radio cloning feature and used an external
programmer. Icom never offered service on those products as we had no
way to program them and they were not an Icom product.
