A usb/serial cable will not do anything. You must have a CT-17 or some other
product like that to do level conversion. At least you do with a Pro III and
I suspect your rig is the same unless it has it built in.

I bought a computer usb cable to interface my Icom 706MK2G radio with Ham 
radio deluxe program. Havent had any luck getting it to work. Ant
