BUYER BEWARE!
I found out the hard way. There are two kinds of USB to Serial adapter
cables available.
One cable has a Serial (RS-232) output and the other has a Serial (TTL)
output.
You need the one with the RS-232 output to use with a standard CI-V serial
converter. Some radios have the CI-V built in and will work direct with the
RS-232 output.
The flip side is the USB adapter cable with Serial TTL output. It has TTL
logic and the signal is inverted compared to the RS-232.
The good news is that both varieties are available for under $10. They
normally come with a 12in cable and a DB-9 connector. I am using one of the
RS-232 varieties on my FT-920 (Built in converter) and another one on my
homebrewed CI-V adapter for my IC-735. I paid $8.95 each plus shipping from:
http://www.buyextras.com/setousbco.html
They included a CD with the drivers on it. I ordered the 12 in cable, They
also come with a 6ft cable for a few dollars more.
Moral is to read the specs closely before you order.
