Carl are you testing for forward PEP on the meters and do they measure PEP?
I am not familiar with those meters other than just seeing one here and
there. Put the Pro3 into RTTY and push the transmit button. Mine says just
over 100 watts PEP into a PowerMaster meter then to a dummy load. I get the
same measurement to my SteppIR. You should be getting something near that
amount out. 73 OZ

Subject: [ICOM] Icom 756 PRO III output power
Hello
I am new to the reflector and a new PRO III owner as well. I've researched
the archives and found quite a few subjects relating to low output power
from 746 and 756 owners. I am running a PRO III into a 5 element Telrex
monobander with FLAT vswr. I cant get any where near 100w out of this rig
into the yagi or even into a bird dummy load. I have a Diamond SWR meter
and a Bird 43 with both measuring to within a few watts of each
other....about 85-88w on 14.200.
I use a Henry 3K Premier amp that likes to see 110 or so watts from the
Ft1000 on the bench...with the Icom, the power is way down out of the amp.
I have heard that these rigs can produce more power...is this true? I am
NOT running the Icom PS but rather I am using a 35amp Astron PS so
additional current draw would not be a concern.
Comments from the Icom gurus?
Thanks in advance
Carl AG6X
