[ICOM] Icom IC-756ProIII or TS-950SDX (was: TS-850SAT???)

Thanks Kelly, well I am not a contester and what you guys have described
gives me a headache. Just listening to both sides of a split in a DX pileup
is hard enough. Listening to ones own pileup and listening to another band,
well, all I can say is pass the aspirin. Thanks 73 OZ

Hi Larry,
Properly designed, such as in the FT1k or even the P3, dual receivers, or
Dual Watch as in the P3, which isn't really two receivers, allows you to
keep an ear on a pileup while tuning for other stations to work. You can
even set some so the signals are either mixed, as if through an audio mixer,
or with one receiver on one ear and the other receiver on the other ear.

It's really handy, as it can be exceptionally boring to have to listen to
some DX station running by call areas.

Done really well, as in a loaded Ft1k D, you can listen, for example, on the
10 meter calling frequency while running stations on 15. A handy way to know
if it's time to go to a higher band in a contest.

If you're a casual op, you probably don't care. But it is a handy device for
folk into contesting.

Then of course is the famed SO2R, where some contesters will, in complete
compliance with rules, use two radios at once, transmitting with one while
the other is receiving and vice-versa. If you can google N3BB SO2R video,
you'll see him working the same station on two bands alternately.

I have been a ham for a long time work a little DX. Would someone tell me
why hams think they need two receivers? I have never had a rig with one and
for the life of me don't know how I would use one. Just a simple answer
please. 73 OZ

Except you give up dual receive, possibly a voice
keyer, and the band scope doesn't work as well. I am
not paying $2500 for a rig that doesn't do some form
of dual receive.

The FT2000 is supposed to be comparable, except that
it is plagued with problems. Go read some of the
eham.net reviews on it.

For reference, the

And you still didn't get 6m on it!
